Some of this summer’s shows include: Barrington Levy and Gregory Issacs. At the time of this post the hours were displayed as follows: 12noon-9pm Wed-Thu & Sun, 12 noon-10pm Fri-Sat. I have heard that the food is decent and it is one of the only places in Mission Beach where you can watch the ocean while you enjoy an adult beverage. I have to admit that I have not been there since it has reopened, but it looks like they have some cool shows playing this summer. On the Mission Beach Boardwalk at Belmont Park, The Soundwave sits at the location of the bar formerly known as Canes, and previously Hurricanes, and Chillers, among others. This can also be a fun venue for live music and drunken dancing. My memories of the Beachcomber range from sitting at the bar chatting with the bar tender and a handful of old locals, to partying it up after OTL, to filling up our table with 75 cent pints and $1.25 cosmos at the end of cheap happy hour on Friday nights with my foreign friends on a budget. This can be a fun place and like the Pennant, the crowds and the type of crowd can vary greatly from day to night and from one night to the next. The Beachcomber is located across the alley from The Pennant also on San Gabriel Place and Mission Blvd. It is a great place to enjoy a cold beverage or take a break during a bike ride or stroll down to South Mission. Charlie is a legendary bartender who must have the best memory of about any bartender I have ever met. There is a very cool upper deck to enjoy the nice summer days. It is a pretty mellow comfortable place most of the time. Different nights bring in different types of crowds.
Located on the south side of San Gabriel Place on Mission Blvd, The Pennant as described on its own website is “a legendary South Mission Beach neighborhood bar” and I can’t think of a better way to describe it. We will add more info on each as time allows: The following is a list of Mission Beach Bars from south to north.
